Blessings

Just a quick post of things that made me happy today:

homemade coffee with hazelnut creamer, great jeans, a new duvet cover, my husband, Bubo (a new owl bank for me and my Mom), mac 'n cheese from Henry's, email from old friends, my students (ALL of them!), a clean classroom (that happens when you come in to clean over the weekend), baked sushi, my scrapbook room, kisses from Beorn, the drizzly weather, lunch with Donna, talking to my Mom, and sleep!

Technology, grrrr. . .

I am so not into technology right now. Don't get me wrong, I love my Zune, my old school IPod, my DS, my very cool TV set up in my office, and I could go on and on. I am just so tired of stuff NOT WORKING when I want it to. Why does my computer just decide not to connect to the internet with some notice about the "Winsox" something or other "not responding?" What does that even mean? So, after backing up all of my files I restored because I had no other option. What a pain. I hate that I spend so much $$ on this stuff and it just arbitrarily (at least in my mind) stops working. I do nothing different day to day, I even clean up my files regularly. Whatever. I hate that all I do is so wrapped up in technology. When it doesn't work it just creates turmoil. My lesson plans revolve around me being able to use my tablet PC. When the pen driver uninstalls itself, with no prompting from me, I look like a huge knob in front of my class! (Not that I don't anyways . . . :) Sometimes I just yearn for the days when students read books and we weren't competing for their attention with all the technology available to them. I know that text messaging is important to teenagers but seriously, can't it wait until their out of the classroom?
